OCEAN SPRINGS, MS – Jerry Munro, a candidate for Ward 4 Alderman in Ocean Springs, reported that his firearm was stolen from his unlocked truck overnight. The incident involved the theft of a Glock 19 (40 caliber) engraved with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Parks logo, along with a cup of spare change.
Munro shared details of the theft in a series of social media posts. “Just a heads up,” he began with. “I got out of my normal routine yesterday and forgot to lock my truck. The walking thieves got me last night. South of Brumbaugh. Police report filed and of course my camera did not catch them. Got my change cup and pistol. Dirty bast@rds!!”
The Ward 4 Candidate later added, “The pistol that was stolen was a Glock 19 – S&W 40 caliber with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fish and Parks logo on it.” Munro says he acquired the gun when he was Commissioner of the department. He has asked the public to help “spread the news.”
In a follow-up comment, Munro noted he had taken steps to investigate – with help from the freshly fallen snow. “I followed the tracks for 20 yards,” he wrote. “Someone has him on camera. Just a matter of time.”
Ocean Springs Deputy Police Chief Steven Dye says there have not been any reports of recent criminal activity involving stolen firearms, but added, “Our recommendation is not to leave firearms inside of vehicles even if they are secured inside of a case.”
Munro announced his candidacy for Ward 4 Alderman back in November, citing his extensive experience in public service and business. Over the past eight years, he has represented Ocean Springs on the Jackson County Utility Authority, serving as both Vice President and President of the board.
How do you forget to lock a vehicle with a gun inside?
